Another dip into my archive. In 2007 Mathieu Briand ‘s installation The Spiral was installed in the turbine hall at the Tate Modern. The installation had five turntables, a DJ mixer and a vinyl cutting lathe in the centre, with a spiral of seating for the audience. Performances from the turntables could be cut to vinyl and then played back in the space, creating an evolving composition. Briand himself had a 12″ of locked grooves which he used to create an improvised techno piece, similar to the locked groove records of Techno DJ Jeff Mills. I worked with composer Duncan Chapman for the Sonic Arts Network, performing a DJ improvisation on Briand’s installation. Dubstep performance with turntablism and controllerism

This video is of a recent Pure Phase live jam. The performance set up is based around a turntable and DJ mixer, but the audio is powered by one Mac Book Pro running Ableton Live, Reaktor 5 and Traktor Scratch Pro, using a Korg Zero4 as audio interface, mixer and Midi controller along with Novation’s Dicer for added control of  Traktor.

Ambient DJ Performance at the British Art Show 7 Launch

I will be performing my new album Transformation of the mind at the launch of the British Arts Show 7 in Nottingham on Friday the 22nd of October. The exhibition runs til the 9th of Jan at Nottingham Contemporary and the New Art Exchange.

The British Art Show is widely recognised as the most ambitious and influential exhibition of contemporary British art. It takes place every five years and tours to four different cities across the UK. Now in its seventh incarnation, the excibition opens in Nottingham and tours to the Hayward Gallery, followed by venues in Glasgow and Plymouth.
